Background. Treatment of moderate ischemic mitral insufficiency (IMI) is still a subject of debates. Aim. To evaluate quality of life and remote results of surgical treatment in patients with IHD complicated with moderate IMI after different types of surgical intervention. Materials and methods. The study included 120 patients randomized to two groups 60 patients each – isolated coronary bypass (CB) and CB in combination with mitral valve annuloplasty (CB+MVAp). At three years of the surgery, mortality rate, severity of mitral insufficiency, and quality of life were evaluated. Results. Quality of life parameters recorded with the SF-36 questionnaire at three years of the surgery did not significantly differ between the groups. At three years after the surgery, IMI progressed to severe in 6 (11.3%) patients of the CB group and in 2 (3.8%) patients of the CB+MVAp group. Conclusion. At three years of the surgery, we did not observe significant benefits of additional mitral valve interventions beyond the CB surgery in patients with moderate IMI. Probably, a longer follow-up period would help detecting a difference between the treatment groups.
