Analysis of heart rate control in patients with diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases in real-life outpatient practice

Background. Heart rate is a significant index that influences prognosis and life span of patients with CVDs. It is important to note that development of β-AB, which are widely used in the treatment of IHD and AH, provided a possibility of influencing tachycardia as a RF. Aim. To study prevalence of tachycardia in patients of a follow-up group and to determine possible causes for the high incidence rate of this RF. Materials and methods. The article provides results of a retrospective analysis of heart rate (HR) control for 713 patients with DM aged 18 and older treated at an outpatient clinic in Nizhny Novgorod. All participants of the study had AH. 61.4 % of patients with DM were diagnosed with IHD; IHD was diagnosed in 45.4 % of all men and 68.0 % of all women (р<0.001). Patients with DM and AH were divided into groups based on their HR; gender-related differences in HR of patients with a history of MI were also evaluated. Results and conclusion. Effective HR control with pulse-slowing drugs, β-AB, calcium antagonists and ivabradine was analyzed. Results of the analysis showed that prescription rate of β-AB was low, 41.4 %; prescription rate of non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers was 1.8 %; and ivabradine was not prescribed to any patient. We analyzed drugs of the β-AB group and their daily doses prescribed to our patients.
