Obesity increases risk for cardiovascular diseases including chronic heart failure. However, reports have appeared that mild obesity is associated with improved indexes of survival in patients with CHF. This phenomenon is called the “obesity paradox”. This article presents a review of clinical studies confirming existence of the “obesity paradox” and describes in detail major mechanisms that may underlie this paradox.
