Time course of left ventricular diastolic function in different methods of coronary bypass surgery

Background. Despite multiple studies, many issues of the LV structure and function condition in different approaches to coronary bypass remain open. Aim. To evaluate time course of myocardial diastolic function after direct revascularization using different methods of coronary bypass surgery. Materials and methods. The study evaluated a totality of 69 patients for whom LV function indexes were measured by EchoCG within one month of coronary bypass. The patients were divided into two groups based on the method of coronary bypass – with or without extracorporal circulation. Results. Myocardial diastolic function was most sensitive to reperfusion. Furthermore, improvement of the LV diastolic function occurred early after the surgery irrespective of the used coronary bypass method. Conclusion. More rapid changes in indexes of diastolic function compared to indexes of local and global contractility suggest that an improvement of diastole is a more sensitive marker for increased myocardial perfusion.
