Background. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of high mortality in patients with acromegaly. Aim. Evaluating echoCG parameters in patients with acromegaly depending on pro-ANP and pro-BNP levels. Materials and methods. 46 acromegalic patients aged 40 to 73 years with the disease duration of 5 to 28 years were examined. EchoCG data and pro-ANP and pro-BNP levels were analyzed. Results. In patients with acromegaly, the level of pro-BNP was significantly increased in both active phase and remission. LV cavity hypertrophy and LV dilation were observed in patients both with normal and increased pro-ANP and pro-BNP levels. Significant decreases in EF, SF, and VE / VA ratio were observed in all acromegalic patients irrespective of natriuretic peptide levels, compared to the control group. Conclusion. In acromegaly, a direct interrelation was observed between pro-peptide levels, primarily pro-BNР, and SAD and LV hypertrophy severity. Diastolic dysfunction associated with sufficient myocardial contractility was found in all acromegalic patients irrespective of pro-BNP and pro-ANP levels.
