The role of anemia in chronic heart failure flow in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy

Background. Systemic manifestations of chronic heart failure and comorbid conditions (anemia, dysfunction of endocrine glands, renal and hepatic dysfunction, diabetes) have recently attracted increasing attention from researchers as they significantly affect the flow and prognosis of the main underlying disease. It is proved that anemia is common among patients with CHF and correlates with increased mortality and morbidity. Objective.To study the prevalence of anemia in patients with CHF due to dilated cardiomyopathy, as well as its relationship with clinical, hemodynamic and biochemical parameters. Materials and methods. Retrospective analysis of the survey of 210 patients with DCM (44.3±15.16 years). Patients were divided into two groups to assess the relationship between anemia and the main disease flow. Following parameters were analyzed: answers to SHOKS questionnaire, 6 min walk test, echocardiography, hemoglobin level and other biochemical parameters. Results. The prevalence of anemia in our study was 22.4 %. The presence of anemia burdens DCM flow, that appears in decreased exercise tolerance, and relatively worse hemodynamic parameters. Also a correlation between hemoglobin level and some markers of renal function and lipid profile was revealed.
