Heart damage in amyoidosis
Storozhakov G. I.
Cardiac amyloidosis is a rare disease presenting a serious diagnostic challenge, because clinical manifestations of this disease are similar to symptoms of another cardiac pathology. Enhanced vigilance of clinicians and classic signs including low amplitude of the QRS complex on ECG and rigid myocardium on echoCG usually help diagnosing the end stage disease. As therapeutic possibilities in cardiac amyloidosis are yet limited early detection of this condition would provide better response to treatment and improved survival of patients. Therefore awareness of doctors and understanding mechanisms of amyloidosis are very important both for cardiologists and general practitioners.
