Cardiohemodynamic parameters in patients with chronic iron-deficient anemia

Urgency. The role of activated cytokine system in the pathogenesis of CHF is presently well established. It seems urgent to study cytokine status in thyrotoxic myocardiopathy and dynamics of the status in the setting of thyrostatic therapy. Aim. Evaluating serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and interleukin-4 (IL-4) in patients with thyrotoxicosis associated with thyrotoxic myocardiopathy before and during the thyrostatic therapy. Materials and methods. Levels of cytokines were studied in 42 patients with the thyrotoxicosis syndrome including 15 patients with thyrotoxic myocardiopathy. Correlation between cytokine status and cardiohemodynamic parameters was analyzed. Results. A considerable activation of studied cytokines (TNF α, IL-1β, IL-4) was observed in all study groups. The greatest changes in interleukin levels were noted in patients with thyrotoxic myocardiopathy. Levels of TNF-α were 161.5 % higher (р<0.001) in these patients than in healthy subjects and 68.2 % higher (р<0.001) than in patients without myocardial injury. Achievement of the euthyroid state did not result in normalization of cytokine levels.
