Renal dysfunction in patients with chronic heart failure: pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment
Reznik E.V., Gendlin G.E., Storozhakov G.I.
Reduced cardiac output and neuro-humoral activation play the main role in the pathogenesis of renal dysfunction in CHF. Diagnosis of renal dysfunction in CHF is presently based on laboratory data. Further studies are required to suggest new morphological and instrumental diagnostic criteria for renal dysfunction in patients with CHF. Renal dysfunction is a major prognostic factor in patients with severe CHF. The parameters used for evaluation of renal function should be taken into account in stratification of cardiovascular risk in such patients. Thorough studying the effect on renal function of drugs used for the treatment of CHF is essential because the treatment may impair the renal function in certain situations. At the same time therapies efficiently improving the renal function can slow down the progression of CHF and prolong life of patients.
