Insufficient compliance of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) with the prescribed regimen of drug therapy and dietary and lifestyle recommendations is related to a considerable degree with a low level of patients’ knowledge of the disease. Aim of the Russian study “SHANS” was evaluating the effect of structured education and outpatient monitoring in patients with pronounced heart failure (CF) on frequency of hospitalization for uncontrolled CHF, requirement for more aggressive treatment of CHF, dynamics of the clinical state of patients, quality of life, cost of treatment, and overall death rate. It was an open, prospective, multicenter study including 763 patients from 24 cities of Russia. Patients of the treatment group underwent structured training with subsequent telephone contacts. Duration of the follow-up period was 12 months. Results of the study «SHANS» will be presented in December, 2004 at the 5th Annual Conference of SEHF.
